Naturally tactile and rustic
WOOD VARIATIONS
When you invite wood into your home, you know that with the right love and care it will last a lifetime. Tactile and hardwearing, solid wood is also renewable and natural; it’s easy to understand why it has been used in our homes for years.
Our rustic solid wood furniture has a beauty and individuality to it that modern materials simply cannot compete with. Skilfully crafted by expert craftspeople, every piece of wood has its own script. It will come as no surprise to hear that our rustic solid wood furniture has been designed to look just that, rustic. This doesn’t mean rough or unsophisticated, so what does it mean?
Finish
Every piece of solid wood furniture is different and the finish will vary in colour and tone. Don’t be surprised if your furniture arrives with more grain or knots than the one featured on our website or studio. This is just the individual personality of your furniture
Grains and Knots
You can expect to see the odd knot here and there and the grain and colour of the wood will vary from piece to piece. Some pieces of furniture may feature more knots than others. It purely depends on each piece of wood.
Sawmarks
All wood is cut using circular saws. The saw leaves wonderful marks in the wood, which are not smoothed with a plane, but sanded by our expert craftspeople. This ensures the wood retains the saw marks and its rustic aesthetic.
Cracks and splits
Cracks in the wood is not a sign of a fault. They naturally occur in all woods and do not weaken the structure of the furniture in any shape or form. Each piece of wood has been crafted to have a rustic appeal. It will look beautiful and have an authentic finish as this is the design. Sometimes our craftspeople even carefully cut-in to the wood to give it extra rustic character. Trust us, you’ll love it!
IT’S ALIVE!
Solid wood continues to breathe in the environment it’s placed in. Do not be surprised if it moves, expands or contracts slightly as it adjusts to being in your home. This is all part of the beauty of having a natural living object in your home.
Wood furniture may also react to changes in the season, just as it would in the woods. This may result in small cracks or splits appearing, but this is nothing to worry about and not a fault. It’s just nature’s way.
FOR LIFE
One of the most wonderful parts of buying solid wood furniture is that the older it gets, the better it looks. The natural grains, knots and marks add more character that will grow with your family for years to come.
