It’s not just us who love reclaimed wood. Sourcing natural materials without impacting our beautiful landscape has evolved from a growing trend to a way of life. More and more people are wanting to shop more consciously and fill their homes with high-grade furniture that not only looks stylish and inspirational but has sustainable roots.
Using reclaimed timber brings a multilayered vibrancy to a home. It comes with a sense of history and individuality, which is visible in the natural markings, notches and original nail holes the wood bears. What’s more, the very nature of reclaimed wood means that no one piece is the same, so your reclaimed wood furniture is truly unique, with its own character and sense of style.
Individuality aside, one of the big benefits of using reclaimed timber is that it prevents unnecessary waste from entering landfills, therefore reducing the release of gasses. The Global Trees Campaign estimates that less than 10% of wood waste is reused, with approximately 3,000 tonnes of what could be recycled timber sent to landfills or burned every working day in Britain. Using reclaimed timber not only reduces the amount we waste, but it also creates less demand on cutting down our trees. As we know, trees are essential in reducing carbon emissions, as well as being a vital source of food and protection for communities around the world.
Whilst reclaimed wood has a soft spot in our hearts here at Modish Living, sustainability and considering the environment is the driving force behind the furniture and homeware we offer and a crucial part of our ethos. This means that whilst not every piece of furniture we sell is made from reclaimed wood, we aim for it to have eco-friendly roots. Our oak tables are skilfully crafted from sustainably sourced European oak and our bamboo lights were chosen because bamboo is fast-growing, durable and sustainably sourced. Even our table linen is made from 100% biodegradable linen..
