How to make the most of outdoor dining in spring

If March roars in like a lion, so the proverb says, it will leave like a lamb. In other words, come March 1st, you are probably still looking at winter – and that has been the case this year with the Beast from the East and Storm Emma – but by the end of the month, the temperature could start creeping up toward double figures.

The evenings may be a little chilly still, and in some parts of the country, the night time frosts will still be a feature but as the days start to stretch longer, we find that spending some time in the garden is a possibility.

However, you may think that dining al fresco in the garden during March is still a little ambitious. But, with these clever hints and tips, you may find that you can enjoy dining out in March – for Mother’s Day or for another celebration.

The Solution – Create an exciting outdoor ‘room’

During winter, we retreat indoors, huddling around the open fire and snuggle on the couch under wool throws and blankets. And why not? And you can emulate this outdoors in March, creating a cosy outdoor ‘room’ that shelters you from the wind with an edge of spring chill.

Perfect for a Mother’s Day picnic – or a full three-course meal – creating this cosy space is relatively simple….

1. Choose your spot

From a pretty corner of the garden to the wooden decking with pergola, creating a space with a roof can be relatively simple. Attached large plastic sheeting to the top surface of the pergola, using vast expanses of voile panels on the underneath to hide some of the structure.

2. Deck it out

Start with the essentials such as comfy outdoor chairs or choose a dining garden set that is just like a dining room set but made specifically for the outdoors. In smaller garden ‘rooms’, bistro or café sets are a perfect choice.

Outdoor Garden Rattan Sofa Set

Or you may want to create something more like an outdoor living room. A rustic corner outdoor rattan furniture set is ideal. The sofas come complete with comfy seating cushions made from weave material that means they can happily withstand spring and summer weather.

3. Lights and heat

Clearly, these are essential, but they don’t mean that you have to spend a huge amount on either;

  • Solar lighting has come on a lot since the early days of weak fair lights! From fencing panel lights to solar lights on stands, to fairy lights and stylish hanging pendant lights, the solar panels are more efficient at capturing solar energy and so you can have hours of gentle illumination when you dine out this March.
  • A fire pit is perfect for adding the level of heat you need but don’t have the fire pit under the cover of your garden room. As the coals start to cool, they give off carbon monoxide that will concentrate undercover. Place the pit out in the open air to avoid this happening.

4. Accessorise!

Garden Wall Lights

From flickering candles to pretty rustic lights, to soft scatter cushions to throws and an amazing centrepiece for your outdoor dining table, there are all kinds of ways of making the ‘room’ look cosy. There is also a growing choice of outdoor garden rugs to choose from but on a dry day, there is nothing wrong with requisitioning an indoor grey sheepskin rug for using as an extra layer of the warmth of garden seating.

Will you dine out this March – for Mother’s Day or any other occasion?

Clever ideas to make your small garden look amazing

The small garden is to be celebrated. With minimal maintenance, it can be a haven of colour and scent, perfect for enjoying in the warmer months of late spring and summer. But there is also something pleasing about the deep colours of autumn and even the winter garden can enjoy a beauty all of its own.

But, like a small room in the house, it can be difficult to style and organise a small garden. Too much detail becomes clutter, shutting down the space to the eye. There are solutions, however…

Flexible seating

Top of the list for any garden activity is to sit and enjoy the sunshine, admire your flowers and feel your stress slip away as the scent and sounds of the garden wash over you. You can only do this if you have comfortable outdoor seating.

Flexible seating means that it offers a lounging experience, as well as one where you can dine al fresco too. Softwood furniture tends to have a short life, with hardwood offering being a costlier, but long-lasting alternative.

Chilgrove PE Rattan Garden Sofa and Coffee Table

However, a rattan table and chairs ticks all the boxes. Cover with a waterproof protective coat during winter or when the rain lashes down, and you have stylish AND flexible seating options for the small garden.

Clean, simple lines with details

Just like a smaller room in the home, the detailing plays an important part. Don’t opt for ‘miniature’ stuff as these compound the smallness of the space.

Classic Anthracite Lanterns

Instead, consider adding;

  • Plenty of lighting in the garden but keep it soft and subtle. Choose the same kind of styles of lighting too to promote the sense of cohesion that brings it all together.
  • Zoning areas in any size garden give enhances appeal and function – for example, create a dining area close to the house and then a less formal area to the rear of the garden.

Greenery

You need plenty of greenery in a small garden, although the temptation can be the concrete it and make it into a yard. There are pros and cons but if you don’t fancy buying an expensive lawnmower to mow a small patch of grass, consider artificial grass instead.

A quick sweep (or even a vacuum) keeps it in tip-top condition. Dot your rattan chairs with colourful outdoor cushions and you have a super space to relax and unwind.

Function

A small garden can be functional and a great place to sit and relax. As well as greenery, you need plenty of colour. If you have the border space, choose colourful blooms and don’t forget you can mix vegetables in with your flowers too.

Add more colour with cushions and throws – hot colours like red, golden yellow and orange are perfect, or if you want, choose cooler colours such as pretty blues and lavender.

Candles clustered together on an outdoor table and chairs are also perfect for adding dimension and height and what is more romantic than flickering candlelight of an evening, as you enjoy the setting sun?

The secrets that give your garden a boost in the spring

Woman Working in Garden

With the snow now almost gone for most of the country, and some slightly warmer weather upon us, now is the perfect time to give your home and your garden an injection of spring.

However, having had such cold weather, you may feel your garden could do with a little TLC. Take a look at our guide to create a colourful spring garden by the time Easter rolls around:

Clean out the garden

Start by having a general tidy up and removing any debris. Now is your chance to remove those leaves you didn’t get around to pick up when they fell off the trees in the autumn and those pesky weeds (make sure to grab them at the roots to make sure they won’t grow back).

Greenhouse at Modish Living

If you have a greenhouse, make sure to wash it inside and out before you get going too – a dirty greenhouse will not look particularly aesthetic next to all those beautiful blooms you’ve lovingly nurtured. And don’t forget to ventilate your greenhouse well for a couple of days after washing.

Give your soil a new lease of life

After the winter (especially when there’s been snow!), your soil is likely to be dried out and packed. To get your soil ready to plant all your beautiful new shrubs and flowers, add some moisture using organic materials like manure or compost.

Garden Tools

Prune old plants

Plants that survived through the cold this winter will need to be trimmed back so that they’ll grow again this year. Make sure to wait until it is less cold to do all the pruning just in case there is a frosty spell in early spring.

If your plants are already blooming, make sure you don’t prune before just after they have bloomed – you don’t want to chop any future flowers. Spring blooming flowers should be pruned before they bloom in early spring.

Add new flowers and shrubs

Once you’ve got your garden almost spring ready, it’s time to invest in some new spring plants. Some of our favourites include: snapdragons, tulips, lilac and pansies.

Make sure to buy some summer-flowering bulbs too so that you’ll have a lovely, vibrant garden all summer long. Dahlias, marigolds, beardtounge and gloriosa lilies are all good choices to add a splash of colour to your garden.

Prep your furniture for entertaining

St Mawes Dining Table and Rattan Dining Chairs for Outdoors

If you are using your trusty rustic outdoor furniture from last year, make sure to give it a spring clean too ready for summer BBQs and garden parties. If you don’t tend to entertain until later in the year when the weather’s a bit warmer, this might be a task to save until nearer the time given how unpredictable the British weather is!

Aldsworth Small Wooden Shelf Ladder

You may also wish to invest in some new garden furniture. For avid gardeners, our advice would be to invest in wooden shelving units or a wooden ladder (like this or this) – both of which will provide a stylish space to store all your garden equipment, and even a spot for popping some extra, smaller plants to give your garden a full, blooming look.

What will you be doing to get your garden spring ready? Let us know, or share some photos of the blooms you’ve been buying all ready to plant!

The best woodland walks to enjoy this weekend

Woodland Walk

Squirrel in Woodland

With Mother’s Day the perfect excuse for spoiling mum (do we need one?!), spending time with the woman who offers so much and does so much for is the perfect gift. Of course, it might be your aunt who is the significant woman in your life, your Gran, next door neighbour, step-Mum or foster Mum. Whoever your special Mum is, enjoy a woodland walk together this March – it’s also World Forestry Day on the 21st, so if you can’t get there for Mother’s day, then there’s always another excuse!

Grizedale, Cumbria

If you are both fit, then this strenuous uphill hike will be perfect especially as the views from the top are simply fantastic. You’ll have panoramic views of the Lakeland Fells from the highest peak (only 314 metres!). But if you don’t fancy hiking up the top, there are some easier, less strenuous trails that are a delight, including the Millwood Trail. Enjoy the mile-long walk streamside and plenty of shade.

Cumbria Woodland Walk

Return home to a roast served up at an immaculately laid farmhouse table, complete with a bottle of bubbly.

Ankerwycke, Surrey

Close to Runnymede, a great stopover point if ever there was one, this woodland parkland is a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Just watch the stress roll off Mum (and you too!) as you gently stroll along clearly marked pathways bordered by spring flowers. Rest awhile in the shade of the 2,500-year old Ankerwycke yew, under which Henry VIII is said to have courted Anne Boleyn.

Kielder Forest, Northumberland

Kielder Forest Northumberland

Why walk during the day when you could admire the twinkling stars of the night sky? Kielder is said to have the darkest night sky in England so why not enjoy a night time walk with Mum, returning home to enjoy a cup of delicious hot chocolate and a cheeky nightcap? Daytime strolls include the two-mile Duchess Trail or why not hike to the 571-metre summit of Deadwater fell, if you are both feeling a little more adventurous? Keep an eye out for red squirrels too.

Hackfall Wood, North Yorkshire

Described by a 19th-century writer as a ‘beautiful wilderness’, Hackfall Wood is not actually a wood or a forest but a rambling Grade I listed garden. William Wordsworth included Hackfall in his ‘Guide to Tourists’ book and no wonder! Filled with follies and surprising waterfalls, this is a fantastic place to explore. There is a mix of trails including gentle ambles and more ambitious ones, such as the 17-mile Aislabie Walk.

Hatfield Forest, Essex

With over 3,00 species of wildlife, if your Mum loves the outdoors, then this is surely the must-do walk on the list. One of the only surviving medieval royal hunting forests left, it is cultivated and managed by humans over the years to produce the beautiful place that it is today. With ancient trees, it is a perfect walk with your mum this weekend.

Small Round Table and Two Chairs Bistro Set in Clay

Or, if you don’t fancy travelling to a woodland, why not enjoy a stroll in your own local neighbourhood? Better still, if the weather is fine, there is no reason why you can’t enjoy the great outdoors by dining al fresco at an outdoor table, complete with your comfy, indoor coloured dining chairs giving it a classy, elegant look.

How to host a fun and warm Bonfire Night party

2 Anthracite Lanterns with Candles

Bonfire Night Fireworks Modish Living

It’s that time of year again when we bring family and friends together to enjoy Bonfire Night. From a small firework display to sparklers, to apple bobbing and great food, there usually isn’t much of an excuse needed to get people together. And we have some great ideas for a fun and warm Bonfire Night party.

Wrap Up Warm

Hopefully, it won’t be raining on Bonfire Night but even then, it is not enough to dampen the spirits. Even though it is November and the dark evenings are with us, there is no need to stay indoors.

You may have put your garden furniture in storage but bring it out for one final airing before its winter hiatus and get the gazebo out too. Enjoying the outside is easier when you are protected from the elements but there is no need to be cold.

Nordic Fisherman's Knit Cotton Throw

More and more of us are enjoying the winter garden more, wrapped in a super-warm throw. Opt for natural materials as far as your budget will allow as wool, for example, has superior thermal properties, perfect for snuggling on the garden lounger or sofa whilst you watch the flames flicker in the fire pit.

Tip Top – add plenty of solar lights to the garden to add extra visibility. Choose solar light posts for the borders as well as pretty, colourful outdoor string lights.

Come Inside

But when the chill really begins to bite, the party will need to come inside and again, your home needs to have plenty of seating options that entice people to stay just a little longer.

A real fire is perfect and if you have one, make sure the log holder is stacked to the brim so as the fire dies away, anyone can toss another log on the fire.

Rattan Log Baskets

Get your hosting sorted too;

  • Warming food – the best dishes are those that are cooked beforehand and the flavours allowed to develop and meld together. From cockle-warming chilli to baked spuds dripping in butter, there are all kinds of warming dishes you can make beforehand. Place them on the farmhouse kitchen table for guests to help themselves when they want.
  • Create a cosy centre – the modern sofa is ideal for get-togethers in so many ways, but adding extra cushions and soft, chunky knit throws give it extra appeal.
  • Protect your furniture – ring marks on your prized decorative ladder are not going to go down well the next morning, so make sure you protect your furniture with plenty of well-placed coasters – and make them obvious!
  • Make space for coats and boots – in winter, guests will arrive with coats, brollies, wellington boots etc. and when you come in from the garden, you don’t want mud all over the house. Create a corner where coats can be hung and muddy or wet shoes stored for an hour or two. Switch the underfloor heating up high or encourage guests to bring warm slipper or change of footwear.Classic Anthracite Lanterns

And finally, …

Be safe. If you are having a firework display, make sure you take all necessary precautions. And don’t forget, although candles are romantic, adding atmosphere to a room or outdoor space, they too pose a hazard so make sure they are in a lantern holder and placed on a firm surface.

How to throw the best garden party: Wimbledon style

garden rattan sofa

Wimbledon tennis ball in court

Wimbledon will always be part of a quintessentially British summer. Make the most of it this year by throwing a Wimbledon style garden party in the comfort of your own garden.

Wimbledon is the oldest grand slam in tennis and the grounds boast a fantastic history. For example, during World War II, tennis was halted at Wimbledon, however, the grounds remained in use for civil defence by the fire and ambulance services and the Home Guard.

And what about the trophies? Have you ever noticed the pineapple on the top of the trophy? Yes, there really is a pineapple, and there’s a really good reason why. Back in the 17th century, pineapples were very rare in England and consequently very expensive. Because of this, they became a symbol of significant wealth as the crowing fruit of only the most extravagant feasts. The women’s trophy on the other hand is the rather beautiful Venus Rosewater Dish, which doesn’t have a pineapple on it and instead looks like the most luxurious piece of serving ware.

Preparations

Before your garden party, make sure to get your garden looking beautiful. The green grass on the Wimbledon courts takes months to prepare, so whilst you may not have that long, get the lawn mower out.

For decoration, keep it simple. Traditionally, players would wear all-white, however whilst that rule has now been relaxed, it would certainly be a good way to go with decoration. Make sure to add some summer colour too with yellow and green.

If you fancy, you could even have a dress code. Dress like the Royals on Centre Court with summer dresses and suits for a posh garden party. Or, you could get your guests to come dressed in all white or sports luxe clothing.

Food and Drink

Try and keep it simple when it comes to food and drink so you can spend as much time socialising with your guests, and watching the tennis. The classic summer drink of Pimms is always popular at Wimbledon, so is a must-have for your garden party. Serve with lemonade and lots of fresh fruits like strawberries and cucumber for a refreshing tipple.

Gin is another favourite at Wimbledon so keep the gin and tonics flowing. You could even serve a gin cocktail to your guests if you fancy. But if you’re doing a party during The Finals, there’s only one thing to serve, and that’s champagne!

strawberries and cream

When it comes to food, whatever you choose to serve your guests as a main meal, make sure you don’t forget the strawberries and cream for dessert. Over Wimbledon fortnight, an incredible 28,000 kg of strawberries and 7,000 litres of whipped cream are are consumed. Chop your strawberries in half and serve with lots of whipped cream. You could even crumble up some meringue to make a quick and easy Eton Mess.

The Perfect Set Up

At any garden party, you need the right outside furniture to make your guests comfortable. An outdoor table is a staple in any garden, especially if you love to entertain. Try and find a table which is big enough for the typical number of guests you would be serving outside. However, at a Wimbledon garden party you may find guests wondering off to watch the tennis and not sat at your beautiful new table at all!

Harting Rattan Garden Sofa Set

When it comes to outdoor seating, invest in a beautiful outdoor sofa which is perfect for garden parties. Not only do they add sophistication and comfort to your garden, but they are also really practical too when you have a lot of guests. A rattan sofa is a great idea as they are weatherproof and look super stylish. Allow your guests to relax and with a glass of Pimms in hand whilst you finish off in the kitchen, or at the BBQ.

You could even go all out with a garden sofa set for all your guests to sit and chat, which is made even better if the position means you can see the Wimbledon action on the TV! If this isn’t an option, bring your laptop or tablet into the garden so you can sit outside without missing out.

Celebrate Independence Day with a huge garden party

Lodsworth Rattan Corner Sofa Set in garden

American Independence day flowers and strawberry

As a nation, we no longer live in a vacuum and as such, national holidays and celebrations from other countries and cultures become part of our calendar of events too.

What is Independence Day?

Not to be confused with a film of the same name, Independence Day – also referred to as the Fourth of July – is no exception. It is a federal holiday Stateside (the American equivalent of a public or bank holiday here in the UK) and is the day that Americans celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776.

The thirteen American colonies were forming a new nation, the United States of America, and were no longer part of the British Empire.

Associated with parades, fireworks, carnivals, picnics and BBQs, it is the perfect excuse to team up with family and friends, and celebrate American Independence Day with a huge garden party.

Hosting an All-American Party

Lodsworth Rattan Corner Sofa Set with coffee table

Americans celebrate Independence Day in style – the bigger, the better! So, if you have plans to host a garden party, you need to go large.

  • Get the Garden Party-Ready

Firstly, before you start ordering bunting, you need to make sure your garden is in order.

This means a quick tidy up along with pruning shrubs into shape and, most importantly, making sure you have enough outdoor rattan furniture and/or patio chairs for people to relax and enjoy the celebrations.

A quality outdoor table and outdoor chairs are a great investment. As well as hardwood products, consider metal garden furniture – colourful and long-lasting – along with rattan chairs and so on are all great additions.

For something different, but equally as hard wearing, opt for reclaimed garden furniture.

The style is important too. As well as outdoor dining sets, consider the more informal approach of an outdoor sofa. A rattan sofa set is ideal for a busy garden and not just Independence Day celebrations!

American flag on independence day with sparkler

  • Dress Up the Garden!

With seating in place, you can begin to set the tone for your celebration garden party. Here are a few ideas;

  • Bunting and Flags – red, white and blue, stars and stripes are all a must. Because Americans do everything bigger, don’t scrimp on the flags and bunting.
  • All-American dishes – Americans love their food and we have welcomed some of their dishes into our culture too. Enjoy American hot dogs with lashing of mustard. Burgers are great on the BBQ too, along with chicken wings and legs. Don’t forget muffins, savoury and sweet, for sweet treats after the fries and burgers.
  • Glow sticks instead of fireworks – the lighter nights and the close proximity of your neighbours mean that fireworks can be a bit of a faux pas. Substitute for glow sticks and plenty of solar panelled garden lights
  • ‘Party Favours’ – as you bid your guests farewell, a party bag with cake and a few small gifts are ideal, especially for the children (and big kids!).

There is an amazing range of party retailers online who have everything you need for an American Independence Day garden party. All you need now is sunshine…

Spend quality time with your children in the garden

garden furniture sets

Little reading in the gardenWith the summer months comes warmer temperatures and hours of glorious sunshine – or so we hope! – and that means getting out in the garden, enjoying the space it has to offer. This becomes all the more enjoyable with the comfort of one of our garden furniture sets.

Spending quality time with the kids in the garden is ideal for the summer months stretching out before you. There are many outdoor activities, from messy play to trampolining, that are suitable. And one great idea is cooking and eating outdoors with your kids.

Eating Outdoors

Round St Mawes Garden Table in Reclaimed Teak Outdoor

Eating together as a family brings many benefits. But preparing and cooking together is also a great bonding activity.

It is also a great way to teach kids where their food comes from and encourage them to try new things. Here’s some ideas.

Deconstructed Cheese Burger

Kids love burgers but the same old thing over and over again gets boring. Encourage your children to look at food differently with this deconstructed cheeseburger salad;

  • Enough burgers per person – grill or oven bake. Or, BBQ them. Whilst they cook, make the salad…

You will need:

  • Salad leaves – you choose! Watercress adds a peppery note, as do rocket leaves to a salad. Iceberg lettuce is great for any salad base and is light and refreshing. Chop and tear the leaves to create a luscious green bed of leaves.
  • Salad ingredients – add anything you like from chopped tomatoes to ribbons or carrot and kernels of sweetcorn.
  • Cheese slices or cubes – add these to your salad

Once the burgers are cooked, chop them into cubes and add to the salad. You can eat cooked burgers cold so you can bake the burgers earlier on in the day and make the salad for lunch or tea.

Pitta sandwiches

Another quick and easy lunch is to make your own sandwiches and enjoy a picnic in the garden.

    You will need:

    • Fresh bread or ring the changes with pitta bread pockets.
    • Instead of butter, use a light cheese spread and have a range of options for your kids to try.
    • Grated cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, olives… you name it, entice your kids to try it. Include meats and fish, like tuna or smoked mackerel for a zap of flavour.

    Alfresco Dining

Eating outdoors is such a wonderful way to enjoy the sunshine, especially with one of our beautiful garden furniture sets. Of course, if you don’t have garden furniture, you can also enjoy a picnic on the grass.

Get your kids to choose their favourite spot in the garden and set up your picnic or garden furniture there.

Bring out a blanket, cutlery and your favourite board games and enjoy an outdoor afternoon.

    outdoor picninc with kids

To encourage more alfresco dining, why not invest in high-quality outdoor seating and garden furniture sets.

Garden Bistro Set Table and four Chairs in Sky Blue

It’s important to buy garden furniture that fits the needs of your family but bear in mind the dimensions of the garden too.

A small garden table works well for smaller gardens but also for creating a zoned dining area too.

Bistro garden furniture – available in different colours and seating formats – are ideal for any garden space, perfect for impromptu brunch.

Don’t forget to accessorise the outdoor dining area too. Solar lights are ideal for adding notes of interest (and much safer on an outdoor bistro set than candles!) and some can be incredibly bright too. Or enjoy plants in pots and other garden accessories on the garden ladder shelving.

    Burn calories by gardening

Outdoor garden plants and flowersExpert gardeners will tell you how therapeutic gardening is. Fantastic for mind, body and soul, Garden Exercise Day on June 6th serves to remind us of the many benefits of spending an hour or two in the garden. Whether it’s varnishing your teak garden furniture, jet washing your outdoor seating or planting shrubs, the mix of vitamin D and endorphins can be hard to resist.

Whether your garden is a jungle of weeds or a vista of manicured borders and well-chosen plants, Garden Exercise Day is ideal for upping you and your family’s activity levels.

NB Whilst we want to encourage as many people to pursue an active lifestyle, you need to be careful. If you haven’t exercised for some time, check with your GP whether turning the compost is the right form of exercise for you. And don’t forget the make sure you wear sunscreen and stay hydrated too. Most of all, start small and build up your daily gardening regime over time.

    Get Fit Whilst Gardening

Mow the lawn in garden outdoor

Getting fit in the garden you will be pleased to know is mainly free – apart from investing in tools etc. – and requires no special equipment or clothing, other than a floppy hat for shade and a decent pair of shoes if digging – oh, and an outdoor bench to sit down on afterwards of course!

No matter how big or small your garden, there are plenty of ways to get exercising…

Mow the lawn – rather than taking your time, get a hoof on the next time you get the lawn mower out. The best exercise is when it leaves you slightly breathless and on the verge of a sweat. And no stopping half way through!

Mowing the lawn with a push mower expends 243 calories. Great for keeping your weight in check and save on electricity or petrol too.

Digging and tilling – if you’ve always wanted to get rid of a shrub, plant new ones or get to grips with a border, now is the time to do it. Sharpen the spade and get digging, using a fork to turn over the soil. Use a hoe to cut weeds off at their base and sit back on a deck chair to admire your handy work.

Heavy digging and tilling can expend more than 200 calories and, is great for strengthening back muscles and toning the arms.

Bagging leaves – in late summer, some shrubs and trees will start to drop their leaves in readiness for winter. Deciduous plants and trees shed their leaves to conserve energy so they make it through winter unscathed. Leaf mulch – rotted leaves – makes a great fertiliser the following spring so when the leaves drop, get raking, bagging the leaves in bin bags to hasten decay.

Burning 162 calories, bagging leaves is a fantastic way to tidy the garden. Sit back and enjoy a small gin with slimline tonic, with only 64 calories in the evening sun, cooled to perfection in the garden bar.

Chopping wood – wood for the winter months for the log burner or for the fire pit in the garden is a great way of building up a sweat and shedding calories. However, chopping wood can be tough on the back and the arms.

Shedding around 250 calories, several sessions of wood chopping will soon add up.

    wood chop in garden

General gardening – from tidying and storing equipment away to ‘pottering’ about, plant seeds and nurturing tender seedlings, there are many smaller gardening jobs that help to shift the calories.

Spending an hour doing general gardening jobs can see us expend more than 200 calories.

Pot plants on reclaimed wood dining table

    But enjoy your garden too!

The whole point of outdoor space is to extend the interior of your home to the outside, whether you choose an outdoor table and outdoor chairs or a hammock for relaxation. When the sun shines and the temperature is warmer, as well as completing essential gardening jobs, don’t forget to relax amidst nature on comfortable garden chairs or rattan outdoor furniture with a drink of choice and the latest novel on hand.
