How our lovely customers styled our dining tables

Industrial dining table with matching wooden bench

Reclaimed wood dining table with carafe of red wine, blue plates and placemats set for two

It’s no secret, but we love reclaimed wood furniture! Not just the fact that it is environmentally friendly but also the look, feel and uniqueness of it. Our customers love it too – we can see this in the gorgeous images that are often sent to us or posted on social of the furniture they have bought – beautifully styled and looking straight out of a home interior magazine.

The Standford Industrial Reclaimed Wood is proving to be as popular as ever – this image was posted on Instagram by the lovely @bricksandshutters_at_number1 showing just how wonderful the Standford industrial table looks with a mix of wooden dining chairs and the coordinating Standford Industrial Reclaimed wood dining bench. An industrial sideboard completes the dining room furniture by providing stylish storage for serving dishes, table mats and other dining room essentials.

@lifeatnumber70 opted for the Kensington Luxe – this stunning table is crafted from salvaged railway sleepers and features shiny silver legs for an elegant industrial look. The clear dining chairs work beautifully here as they allow the feature legs and rustic table top to be seen in all their glory. A centrepiece on a reclaimed wood dining table always looks great like the garland of flowers and leaves used here – you can choose a simple vase with fresh seasonal flowers, twigs or a candlestick. We love how the sun fills this beautiful dining space and can imagine what a wonderful place this is for family and friends to gather.

@ourhawthorndenhome is demonstrating how great the Hoxton Rustic Oak Trestle Dining Table looks when paired with the sophisticated Florence Cream Fabric Dining Chairs. We love the detail of these upholstered dining chairs – let’s face it when the table is not in use you only see the back of a dining chair – the Florence chairs have this covered with decorative antique brass studwork and practical brass chair-back handles. We love that they so versatile and look just as great in a relaxed farmhouse kitchen as they do in a sophisticated dining room.

The Kensington industrial dining table was a great choice for @inside_no_1_ The tabletop is the same as the Kensington Luxe, crafted from salvaged railway sleepers, but the solid feature legs are in matt black industrial metal. This table has been paired with soft grey faux leather dining chairs. To achieve the industrial style you should match natural materials such as reclaimed wood with functional metal and leather or other natural materials, faux leather chairs are a great alternative if you prefer not to go with a real leather chair.

House Tour: A 1930’s home with a rustic heart

Woman with long blond hair and light green top carrying a large bunch of pampas grass

If you haven’t found @jade.doutch on Instagram yet, you’re in for a treat! She transformed her 1930’s semi-detached property in Anglesey, Wales into a fabulous fusion of modern rustic and Boho/Scandi styles that not only we fell in love with, but her 100k plus followers.

Rustic open plan kitchen with stone wall and wooden breakfast bar with industrial stools

Jade’s home is a masterclass in modern rustic design, celebrating the beauty of natural materials, modern subdued hues and tactile surfaces. Rustic furniture such as her gorgeous wood dining table in the open plan kitchen and wooden chest of drawers in her bedroom mix with modern and Scandi influences in the way of monochrome accents and faux fur accessories to bring a wonderfully styled home that is warm and inviting.

The Kitchen/Diner

It’s hard not to love everything about this room. From the combination of natural and dark grey painted wood cabinetry and open rustic shelves to the metal and reclaimed wood detailing, not to mention the grey bi-fold doors leading out to a wonderful wooden decked patio. The rustic dining table with its pale finish and chips, scars and markings add the character of this well-thought-out scheme.

The sitting area in the open plan kitchen/diner is a fantastic example of how to mix different interior themes. By keeping the same colour tone throughout, Jade has brought together industrial, rustic, scandi and boho styles in one beautifully cohesive curation. We love the industrial coffee table with its metal frame and concrete effect round top.

Living Areas

What makes this home perfect for modern-day living is the organic layout. The property features different rooms and zones to relax in, from a formal sitting room to a more relaxed living room, together with a TV room. Jade’s natural eye for style means each space blends harmoniously with the other, whilst each having its own identity. She has used accent furniture and soft neutral textures to bring the looks together. A vintage wooden sideboard mirrors the colours of the walls, whilst a rustic milking stool replaces sofa side tables.

The Bedroom & Shower Room

Jade has continued the same vibe of the downstairs into the upstairs of her home with her bedroom and bathroom reflecting the same rustic and boho style. In the bedroom, the large chest of drawers and wooden wardrobe provide essential storage, but the warm wood features add character and cosiness to the room. The shower room is one of Jade’s most liked images on Instagram, and it’s easy to see why.

@bellwayhometorhead

We’ve had our eye on Instagrammer @bellwayhometorhead for some time and with over 35k followers, we’re clearly not the only ones who have fallen for her modern farmhouse style. Her use of natural textures and a neutral palette presents a wonderfully calming and cosy feel, which is complemented with beautiful rustic furniture.

The Property

Purchased in 2003, Lynn Mooney, better known as @bellwayhometorhead on Instagram, and her husband, Drew, and golden retriever, Marley, were attracted to the newly built detached property in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, because of its semi-rural location and good sized rooms. Over the years they have made significant renovations to the property, including a new kitchen, en-suite, dining room doors and lighting. The result is a delightfully inviting home with calming neutral colours and modern rustic furniture.

The Style

Modern rustic farmhouse style would best describe the overall look of the home. Neutral colours and natural textures blend with carefully selected pieces of wooden furniture, such as the wonderful rustic dining table, to create a perfectly balanced and harmonious scheme throughout.

Favourite Rooms

The kitchen/diner with its beautiful two-tone Shaker kitchen units in soft grey and off-white. The colour complements the wooden flooring and white full-length shutters on the bi-fold doors, giving the room a distinct New England mixed with the Hamptons feel. The soft faux throws on the wooden bench and basket accessories add texture, whilst the industrial hanging pendant lights over the wooden dining table brings the look right up to date.

Furniture Highlights

The refectory-style farmhouse dining table is an eye-catching piece. Lynn chose a combination of wooden dining bench and dining room chairs for seating to give a laid-back dining experience.

The grey painted narrow console table in the living room is also a wonderful piece. Styled with two large rustic table lamps, it doubles up as a TV unit with the television above. Staying in the living room, the wooden rustic coffee table with natural wood top and white painted frame matches the colour scheme of the room.

It’s been an unusual year to say the least, and whilst many us will happily toast goodbye to 2020, before we pop the Champagne corks we thought we’d take a look back at some of the fabulous homes, influencers and businesses we have met throughout the year to chat about homes, interiors, sustainable living, reclaimed wood furniture and more. From the lovely Lorraine Pascale and Instagram favourite, Just a Little Build, to the talented floral artist behind Botanical Tales, not to mention some of the stunning homes we’ve been lucky enough to feature.

Lorraine Pascal, Author & Emotional Wellness Advocate

Devoted to helping us live our best lives possible, Lorraine Pascal shared one of her scrumptious recipes with us to help us through the dreary winter months. Testament to her great taste, Lorraine served up the dish on our Standford Industrial reclaimed wood dining table; the perfect backdrop if ever we’ve seen one.

Gemma Gear, That’s So Gemma

To kick off the year, we met with our friend, stylist and blogger, Gemma, to discover more about a day in the life of an interior stylist. Gemma works with us on our shoots and her sharp eye helps make our rustic furniture look even more desirable. We asked Gemma what she thought would be big in homes in 2020 and she predicted ‘plants’. How right she was!

Ju de Paula, The Blueberry Living & Co

We burst into spring in a blaze of colour with an interview with Ju de Paula, interior designer and founder of Blueberry Living & Co. You may have recognised Ju from the TV hit Interior Design Masters where her colourful designs won her a third place in the competition. We talked about sustainability in the home, where she gets her colourful ideas from and her favourite products; unsurprisingly our canary yellow Sabrina Curved Velvet Armchair stole her heart!

Sarah-Jane, Just a Little Build

With over 100k Instagram followers, @justalittlebuild influencer, Sarah-Jane, has the home many of us dream of. She would often feature our Kensington Reclaimed Wood Dining table in her posts, showing her followers just how glamorous an industrial dining table can look in the home. With her love of entertaining, and of her wood dining table, we asked Sarah-Jane to show us how to create a lust-worthy dinner party table.

House Tours

In our House Tour features we walked around some truly stunning homes. From the beautiful light-filled Cotswold home of @aconstantdreamer, to the dark and dramatic home of @beetrootandblack, not forgetting the incredible American colonial style renovation of @inside_number_5_. The common thread in all of the homes we featured was not just the wonderful taste they all had, but their love of rustic and reclaimed wood furniture. Whether that was a dining bench crafted from old railway sleepers or a solid oak farmhouse dining table, the natural imperfections and original nail holes in these pieces added character and charm.

Ruth Mottershead, Creative Director, The Little Greene Paint Company

When it comes to eco-friendly paints, The Little Greene Paint Company is one of our preferred choices. We spoke with Ruth Mottershead, Creative Director and daughter of the founder of the company about sustainability, how best to use colour in the home and the best colours to complement industrial furniture.

Bex Partridge, Botanical Tales

Undoubtedly, one of this year’s favourite interior trends was dried flowers and grasses. Their sustainable and ever lasting qualities filled vases on many a large sideboard and rustic table, so in the lead up to Christmas, we asked floral artist, Bex of @botanical_tales, to tell us all we needed to know about creating the perfect display for your home.

We speak with the lovely Bex Partridge, dried floral artist, author, Instagram favourite and founder of Botanical Tales, to find out more about the craft of drying flowers and how to display them in your home.
Woman in white t-shirt holding brand decorated with dried flowers and colourful ribbons

Dried flowers and grasses have been one of the biggest interior hits for 2020 and it’s easy to see why. Everlasting, low maintenance and sustainable, dried bouquets and wreaths are more muted, calmer and homely than fresh blooms, bringing with them a sense of comfort and lasting beauty in what has been an uncertain year.

Hi Bex! Tell us where your love of dried flowers came from?

My love for dried flowers comes from a sustainability perspective as well as one of beauty. Whilst I adore fresh flowers, I truly believe dried flowers can offer just as much, if not more, and have the ability to take us through the dark months of winter with one eye on the wonder that is nature.

Brown vase with bouquet of dried flowers in front of window

I’ve always been a gardener and lover of the natural world for as long as I can remember, hugely inspired by my Oma and mum who are both avid gardeners. My move into the artistic world came about very organically as I spent more and more time working with dried flowers and found I wanted to spend less and less time working in an office on things that didn’t excite me. I took the plunge to start my business two years ago and haven’t looked back since.

My work focusses on the full life cycle of flowers, which sees me growing drying and creating with blooms and foliage. I am passionate about growing for the whole of nature rather than just for our pleasure and take a holistic approach to my gardening.

What are the best flowers for creating a dried display?

I like to use more traditional everlastings such as statice, acrolinium and helichrysum. These flowers have petals that are almost papery to the touch before they are dried and tend to dry the best and retain the most colour. These are perfect flowers to start with when it comes to working with dried flowers.

How easy is it to dry flowers?

The easiest way by far is to simply hang them upside down in a dry, cool place. A cupboard under the stairs or even an airing cupboard work well, or if your space is limited then you can create a floral mobile by hanging a few bunches or heads of flowers from a forage stick, it will make a beautiful textural addition to a room.

What dried flowers go well together?

This is really dependent on what you are wanting to create. I always try to ensure I have a good mix of textures and tones when I’m making a display of any kind. You want to ensure you have dried material that has flow, so lots of grasses mixed with more structural flowers for example.

How do we care for dried flowers so they keep that faded, rustic beauty, rather than looking dusty?

The main things to ensure are that they are kept out of direct sunlight, that they are not allowed to get damp and if kept on display that they may need a clean occasionally. A hairdryer works well for this, simply set the hairdryer to the lowest, coolest setting and gently blow the flowers clean of any dust.

What is your favourite flower and why?

This is an impossible question to answer! It changes greatly depending on the seasons and to be honest, my mood sometimes. Right now I am loving all the autumn colours and so foliage is stealing my heart, but come spring, it will be the crinkly petals of a dried tulip!

What type of centrepiece would you use to decorate a reclaimed wood dining table this Christmas?

I would focus on filling a rustic dining table or reclaimed sideboard with seasonal foliage that will last a few weeks. The greens of the evergreen trees will contrast beautifully with the natural grain of the wood and lends itself to the Christmas period. Honesty seedpods in all their silvery glory will add a touch of sophistication to the display and to take it a step further, rosehips and old mans beard (clematis) would all work beautifully.

What other ways can we use dried flowers to decorate our homes this Christmas?

In the past I have used left over heads of strawflowers in reds and whites to decorate my foraged Christmas tree. Just wrap wire or twine around the short stems and loop around branches. A gnarly branch coated in lichen can be hung from the wall and decorations hung from it as an alternative to a Christmas tree. I love a pared down Christmas when it comes to styling, lots of foliage and velvet ribbons.

A rags to riches home renovation

Women in white dress standing in front of large rustic console table with round mirror on wall

If you lust after the classic American colonial style you are going to fall head over heels for this light-filled and gorgeous home.

Exterior of white colonial style home with separate garage and large tree in front garden

When Sarah saw the outside of her home, she instantly fell in love with its colonial style and proportions, but it was in need of some serious modernisation. What followed was a major home renovation project that turned the outdated interior and exterior into an exquisite home that looks straight out of the Hamptons. We were lucky enough to catch-up with Sarah to speak to her about renovations, colonial style and reclaimed wood.

HOUSE AT A GLANCE

Who lives here: Sarah and Tobin along with their daughter aged 5 and Tobin’s children aged 15 and 13.

Type of property: Detached colonial style home

Size: 5 bedrooms and 4 bathroom

Modern country style grey kitchen with island and glass hanging pendant lights

THE RENOVATION

Where did you start?

The first thing we decided to do was open up the kitchen/dining space to create an open plan living, which works for our family. We lived with my parents during this part of the renovation as everything was being ripped out, the walls were being knocked down and it was not the place for a toddler! Once the kitchen was liveable we moved in and started on all the other rooms, the main bathroom being our next biggy! It was again a complete refurb and everything but the beautiful colonial style arches (a favourite feature of mine) were replaced!

View of grey wooden kitchen with white french doors open to garden

Living room with dark grey feature wall and fireplace and white carpet and sofas

What took the most time?

A major part of our renovation was waiting on planning permission for a separate garage with above living space and taking on this new build. I did lots of research on colonial homes and pinned lots on Pinterest, we really wanted to keep the colonial style of the house and had to make sure the garage was going to complement our existing property. A fun part of the process for me!

Boot room with white bench and logs underneath and large stone pot with plant

Brown leather sofa with large basket side table and small blue kitchen in background

What’s your favourite room in the house?

My favourite room is our kitchen/dining space. It’s where we spend lots of family time and entertain with friends as it has plenty of space and beautiful views out of the back of the house – it’s also where I like to sit and enjoy my morning coffee before the chaos of the day starts!

What advice would you give to someone thinking about a home renovation?

My advice to anyone starting a renovation would be to live in the house for a few months before ripping things out, you might come to love them. Also, be true to your own style and not get caught up with the latest trends. I feel like I’ve found my style now, but it’s taken a few years to really get it right!

View of a bedroom with wooden bed frame and dark wood dressing table

Would you do anything differently?

I wouldn’t be so hasty with trying to get rooms finished, and buying pieces that I later realised weren’t working well.

We love your rustic dining table! What other reclaimed wood pieces do you have?

Over the years I have collected a few pieces of reclaimed wood furniture, from a large wine rack, butcher block table and various chopping boards. I love pairing rustic furniture with more modern pieces; it brings warmth to a space. I chose upholstered dining chairs and a solid wooden bench to go with our refectory style rustic dining table as I liked the contrast of elegance and simplicity. To add cosiness to the dining bench, I bring in soft textures, such as throws or a sheepskin rug.

For a similar style wood dining table our Serenity Reclaimed Wood Dining Table both feature decorative pillar style table legs in a classic design. Check out all of our reclaimed wood dining tables and rustic dining tables here.

House Tour: Inside Beetroot & Black’s Victorian home

Woman with long dark hair sat on dark blue velvet sofa

This characterful property is home to popular instagrammer and photographer, Beetroot and Black. Classic, yet dramatic, her Victorian end of terrace boasts striking period features with a decadent blend of deep dark colours, rustic furniture and stunning lighting.

Living room with dark grey walls and deep blue velvet sofa

HOUSE AT A GLANCE

Who lives here: Rachael, her husband Matt and two children, Lily and Harry.

Location: North East England

Size: 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms

TYPE OF PROPERTY

A beautiful Victorian end of terrace dating back to 1896. Rachael fell for the property mainly because it was full of character and retained all of its original features. When it came to renovating the interior, Rachael wanted the style to flow throughout the house and for it to be in keeping with the period of property. She successfully achieved this by keeping it classic with the addition of bold accents to give each room individuality.

With the renovations complete, for now, Rachael loves nothing more than picking up her camera and shooting the gorgeous images of her wonderful home you see on her instagram account. If you’re looking for inspiration for a family-friendly home with a brooding aesthetic, you’re in for a treat.

What’s your favourite room in the house and why?

It has to be the kitchen. It’s spacious, relaxing and the hub of the home where we spend most of our day – a real family room with multiple uses, we cook, eat, play and relax in this room.

Dining area with industrial dining table, brick wall and white fireplace

View of kitchen from dining room with exposed brick wall and dark grey feature wall

What would be your dream property and why?

I will always buy period properties, because I love the character and original features. One day I would love to have a detached house with a wrap around garden and the privacy that comes with it.

What type of interior style do you lust over?

Although my home has a classic family-friendly style, I do love quite minimal and neutral earthy tones, but this is impossible when you have a small family!

Under the stairs cloakroom with green patterned wallpaper

What’s your favourite piece of furniture in your home?

I have a reclaimed wood dining table that’s actually in storage at the minute as it’s too big for my dining room, but I love it and will use it again one day when I get that detached house! I also have many upcycled furniture pieces. If I can upcycle or buy or buy secondhand, I will. I think it’s important for the environment to reuse where you can and it adds genuine character to a home.

Industrial dining table with black metal legs and dark wood dining chairs

What piece of furniture are you lusting over right now?

I have my eye on your fabulous Winchester Reclaimed Wood Large Chest of Drawers. It would look perfect in my master bedroom.
